This week we're highlighting a foodservice hero from Garden Grove, California. Bill Bracken is the Founder and Culinary Director of Bracken's Kitchen, a 501(c)(3) organization which has supported the community for several years by doing what it can to make sure children and families don't go hungry.

[If he looks familiar, we featured Bracken's Kitchen on our Instagram feed back in May -- but we felt we could highlight him again.]

Since the outbreak of COVID-19, Bracken’s Kitchen has ramped up production greatly, and in the last week of April they distributed over 42,000 tasty and nutritious meals made from scratch. They took a proactive approach to getting there and put people to work. Check out this video to watch a short story from Spectrum News and find out more.

Bracken’s Kitchen helps families dealing with challenges from COVID-19, like the case of a single mother who was fearful of taking her immune-compromised baby in public. Obtaining groceries became particularly difficult for her, as the choice she faced was to either go without groceries or put her baby, who is dealing with congenital heart disease, at risk by going into the store. With the help from Bracken’s Kitchen, the mother rarely needs to go anywhere and her fears have been relieved of minimizing her baby's exposure.

To learn more about Bracken’s Kitchen, visit their website or check out their presence on Instagram, @brackenskitchen.
